The child behind the computer. Well or not?

Many discussions can be heard round this theme in your family, especially if it concerns the son or the daughter. In ours with you the childhood of a similar problem was not. But recollect that far "dokompjuternuju" an era: "do not read much!", "leave the book and go, take a walk!", "do not read laying!", "how many it is possible to watch TV!". Today, unfortunately, at our children the hobby for books has receded into the background. In the attention centre there are much more interesting, entertainment, colour computer games which so grasp! And in the house for the period of such games all calms down: not to hear noise, bustle, crying. Your child as if was transferred to other measurement and at the moment represents itself, for example, the courageous knight or the race driver. Such hobbies are useful or not? Whether there are any norms of employment with the computer for the child? How it influences mentality and health of the son or the daughter?

Let's begin with the positive moments. Use of computers at lessons at school (if it is a question of the schoolboy) promotes cerebration activization, forms outlook of the child, creates positive emotional mood. Early and successful mastering by children by skills of work with such technics always pleases our heart (what clever wash the child!). But, on the other hand, there is an alarm: whether will bring harm long "sitting" in front of the display?

From the point of view of physics

In a display operating time (ELT) are registered insignificant x-ray, ultra-violet, infra-red, microwave radiation, it is low also ultralow-frequency electromagnetic fields. Level of direct radiation in a display operating time under any national standards it is considerable below the admissible. The general dose of an irradiation, even in case of daily eight-hour work, makes 0,5 % of a dose which is received by the person from other daily sources (fluorescence, a sunlight, radio-waves, etc.). And here complex influence of all radiations which go from the display, is studied a little. There are data, that at work with the display throughout 2-6 and more hours per day arises ekzema (skin disease) which, probably, attracts presence electrostatic and electromagnetic water.

Interesting researches were spent to the USA. It has been established, that ultra-violet beams And (a near ultraviolet) promote development of the pathology connected with gipervitaminozom And (superfluous quantity of vitamin A). Among people who worked behind computers, cases of disease have been registered by a cataract (eye cataract). It is supposed, that they were caused by harmful action of electromagnetic radiation of displays. This hypothesis cannot be confirmed by a radiation dose because for development of the cataract caused by radiation, level which exceeds measured in 10000 time is necessary. The statistical analysis has shown, that frequency of occurrence of a cataract at work with the display does not differ from such at other people who do not work with the computer. Therefore, let's calm down: in the future the cataract, as a result of employment on the computer, like would not threaten our children!

Acoustic noise which is created by the computer and peripheral devices, can become a source of stress, discomfort. But it, most likely, cannot become the reason of change of sensory acuity. Probably, value has acoustic radiation, but physiological action of acoustic noise of this range for the present is not investigated.

The muscular discomfort, pain in a back, onemenie fingers speak a wrong pose working for the computer which is caused by the inappropriate organisation of a workplace from the point of view of ergonomics: the screen, the keyboard, a chair, bad illumination, screen blinking, etc. are unsuccessfully located.

What do psychologists speak?

From the point of view of psychology though psychologists can interpret this question differently, computer games are to some extent runaway from a reality. And really, in game, that is somewhere "there", better, more interestingly, "there" - the hero, strong, dexterous and if something does not leave, always it is possible to try to begin everyone again because in games there is a possibility to have some lives. And what is observed actually? Problems at school ("and again the control!", "I do not love mathematics!"), houses ("I want jeans as at the friend, a bicycle, points and still …"), in a family ("my parents are always occupied", "so the little sister bothers with the toys"). And errors in a life, unfortunately, to correct it is impossible …

But books too always were runaway from the present life. The life in books - is much more interesting, and it is possible to identify with the hero of. Hence, always there will be a method to find to itself reality "substitute" if it very to want. Worse, when this substitute - alcohol or drugs. I recollect one of modern jokes: "If superfluous enthusiasm of your son for computer games disturbs you, try to involve it in more serious and healthy employment: cards, wine or girls". That is, sooner or later your child has a problem of a choice of hobby. Whether therefore it is necessary to limit too work with the computer if you are not assured where your child will go to the free time?

About sight

The visual system is most sensitive to monitor work. Almost all who works behind the computer, after long work complain of weariness of eyes, a pain in them, sensation of "sand" in eyes, slezotechenie. The reason can be different: superfluous duration of work with the display or imperfection of means of display of the information, their technical characteristics or the wrong organisation of work, working conditions. Long work behind the computer often is the reason of decrease in visual acuity. Remembering it, it is just necessary to limit according to norms, time of games, especially, if it is game which demands the big visual pressure (small details, bright colours). It is necessary to avoid hobby for "halls of computer games" where the cheapest monitors which most of all harm to sight, as a rule, are bought.

The problems set forth above about which we have told, concern also adult people who daily work behind the computer for 6-8 hours. If to "transfer" them on children here on the first place it is necessary to consider anatomo-physiological features of boys and girls, since 5-6 years (when children sit down for the first time the computer) and to teenage age.
